Science - We will be taking the chapter 11 test on Wednesday. We will use Monday and Tuesday to review for this test. Our next unit will be on Earth's oceans.

Science Essay Hints:
It is a cold, rainy day. The weather forecast is for the next day to be warm and sunny. What would you predict about the amount of evaporation that will take place on the warm, sunny day? Explain.
You are planning a vacation to a resort. Before leaving you gather data about weather forecasts for the region. You learn that a continental polar air mass will be over the region when you arrive, but that will quickly be replaced by a maritime tropical air mass. What kind of weather can you expect when you arrive? How will the weather change after your arrival?
Explain the effect of mountain ranges on weather. Explain what the air masses and precipitation would be like on both sides of a mountain.
You are sitting on a hot, sunny beach. In which direction does the wind blow? Explain why this happens. Why is the seashore a comfortable place to be on hot summer days? Explain.
Social Studies - We will begin Chapter 9 this week.
Spelling - Our pretest will be on Monday. Students with a perfect score will become challenge spellers. All spelling activities are due Friday.
English - We will take a pretest this week for one of our final units. The students will be working with an enrichment contract again. Remember the "X" on the contract means they passed out of that lesson and will be working on their enrichment project during class-time instead of joining me for the lesson. The "EX" in the gradebook means exempt. Your child will receive an "EX" when they have passed out of the lesson.
Reading - We will be working with Augmented Reality this week. Hopefully, we will be able to display some of these projects at Open House.

English - We have finished our unit on Verbs. The class will review on Monday and Tuesday. Our Verb Test will be on Wednesday. We will use the rest of the week of work on reading projects.

Science - We will finish chapter 11, lesson 3 on Friday. We will not take a quiz on lesson 3. Instead the test on these 3 lessons will be on Wednesday, April 30.
Social Studies - The class is finishing chapter 8. We will have an open book test on Thursday. This test will cover: Trouble over Taxes, The Colonists Rebel, and The Revolution Begins.

Monday - Area of a Circle.
Tuesday - Quiz on Area of a square, rectangle, triangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, and circle. This quiz will be open notes/book. (THIS IS A DATE CHANGE!!!)
Wednesday - Surface Area of Cube and Rectangular Prism.
Thursday - Surface Area of Cylinder and Square Pyramid.
Friday - Surface Area of Triangular Prism.

Homeroom Happenings:
Spelling - We will take a spelling pretest on Monday. Both challenge and regular spellers will only need to complete the practice sheet and 2 activities/workbook pages. Our test will be on Thursday, since we do not have school on Friday.
English - This week, we will complete our unit on Verbs. The test will be sometime during the week of April 21. Watch your child's assignment notebook for further information.
Reading - On Tuesday, April 15, the children will need to turn in their vocabulary packet. They will also have a quiz on the 8 words. Please have them review the meanings of the words. We will also continue our study of China this week. The children began "Expert Projects" this week. They chose a topic with a partner. Together they are researching the topic and becoming experts.
Science - On Monday, the children will take the chapter 11, lesson 2 quiz. They should review their notes, the Google Docs slide show, and their textbook to prepare for this quiz. We will also begin lesson 3 this week. This lesson answers the question: "How can Patterns in Weather be Observed?"
Social Studies - The children are working on a Puzzle Piece project. We will work on this all week. This project reviews 3 important dates during the American Revolution.

Monday - We will review how to find the area of squares and rectangles.
Tuesday - We will review how to find the area of triangles and parallelograms.
Wednesday - We will discuss how to find the area of trapezoids.
Thursday - No math due to early dismissal.
Friday - No School.
