Homeroom Happenings:
Spelling - We will not have a spelling unit during the week of March 17, but we will have a unit during the week of March 24.  Third trimester has begun.  Students must receive 100% on the pretest to become a challenge speller.

English - Your child will receive their Unit 3 Verb contract on Wednesday.  This week we will learn about action verbs, direct objects, and main verbs & helping verbs.  Next week, our study of verbs will continue with linking verbs, present tense, past tense, and future tense.  If your child pretested out of a lesson, they will be working on an enrichment project during that specific lesson.  Enrichment work should be done in school!

Reading - The children did a WONDERFUL job on the vocabulary work this past week.  On Wednesday, they will take a quiz on the 9 words.  The vocabulary packet will be collected on Wednesday too.  We will be discussing "author's viewpoint" this week.  On Friday, the children will take a selection test on And Then What Happened, Paul Revere?

Science - We will take the Chapter 15 test on Wednesday.  Here are some helpful hints:
*Vocabulary to review:  convection, chemical energy, energy, conservation, radiation, conduction, potential energy, kinetic energy, solar energy, mechanical energy, conductor, insulator, renewable, & nonrenewable.
*What happens to the particles in the air as the temperature changes?  
*What kinds of energy does a calculator use that can run with or without a battery in the light, and in the dark it runs only with a battery?
*Does this calculator use renewable resources, nonrenewable resources, or both?
Chapter 15 Slide Shows
We will begin a unit on "weather and the water cycle" on Thursday and continue next week.

Social Studies - This week we will finish our discussion on The Boston Tea Party.  The children will also learn about The Intolerable Acts.  The following week, we will learn about the First Continental Congress, Paul Revere's Ride, and the Battle of Bunker Hill.
