Behind the Scenes - Week of January 16

Weekly Spotlight:
*No school on Monday, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
*Fourth Grade Spelling Bee on Tuesday - Saahil and Demetri will represent our class.
*Chapter 4, lesson 1 Science Quiz on Wednesday.
*Chapter 8, lesson 3 quiz on Friday (open book).
*Spelling test on Friday.

Coming Attractions:
*District Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 24, at 1:00 in PV Gym.
*Early Dismissal on Wednesday, January 25, 11:00.
*Bingo Night on Friday, January 27, 7:00-8:30.

Homeroom Happenings:
Science - We will continue learning about the different systems of the body. We will have a quiz on chapter 4, lesson 1 on Wednesday. It will be open book (not notes).

Social Studies - This week we will learning about farming in the Midwest. This lesson will end this chapter. Our test will be during the week of January 23. Students should be studying for the the Midwest Map test. This test will be on Tuesday, January 24.

Spelling - Our study of vocabulary will continue this week. Try using and practicing these words with your child: sufficient, mishap, defer, wrath, hilarious, likeness, dabble, & ordeal. The test will be on Friday.

English - At the end of the week, we will take our next English pretest. The children will receive their contracts on Monday, January 23. We will begin our new unit on Tuesday, January 24.

Reading - The comprehension skill that we will be focusing on this week is drawing conclusions. Good readers use details in a story to draw conclusions about characters and events. Students may use graphic organizers to gather details from a story to draw conclusions. They will learn that it is possible to draw more than one conclusion from the same details.

Mrs. Sulima's Math Class:
Monday - No school.
Tuesday - Triangles.
Wednesday - No math due to MAP testing.
Thursday - Congruent and Similar polygons.
Friday - Quadrilaterals & Trivia Challenge.
