Homeroom Happenings:
Science - We will begin our final unit of the school year on Rocks and Minerals.  The students will be involved in tests to identify minerals.  We will also begin learning about the 3 types of rocks.

Social Studies - Our study of the Western region continues.  We will focus on the resources of the West.  The children will have a test on the Western Region on Tuesday, May 22.  We will be taking our 50 state test on Friday.  Your child will have a word bank of state names and capital names.  They will be given a map and will need to correctly locate and identify all 50 states.  The capital cities will be bonus points (10 correct capitals = 1 point).

English - We will begin our final unit on Adverbs and Prepositions. This week our lessons include:  What is an adverb?, comparing with adverbs, using good and well, and negatives.  This unit only has 5 lessons.  Our test will probably be on Thursday, May 24.

Spelling - The children will take the pretest on Monday.  On Friday, the children will take the test including the bonus words.  This test will need to be written in cursive.

Reading - Our reading strategy for next week is making inferences. Readers must make inferences, or "read between the lines", when the author doesn't tell the reader everything. Readers can do this by applying what they already know to story clues given by the author.

Math - All week, we will be working on ratios and percents.  Please have your child review the notes we are taking in class each evening.  Our final unit for the year will be algebra.
