Homeroom Happenings:
Science - We will continue our study of electricity.  This week and next week, we will explore the differences between series and parallel circuits.  The children will also learn how to draw a circuit diagram and create series and parallel circuits with batteries, light bulbs, and wires.  Please have your child review their notes each night.

Social Studies - The children will take the 39 state test on Tuesday.  They need to know the location and spelling of all 39 states.  If they would like to earn some bonus points, they may also write the capital for each state.  Each capital will be worth 1/10 of a point.  We will also fill out our "how to study" for chapter 10 on Tuesday.  The children will take the chapter 10 test on Friday.

Spelling - Our pretest will be on Monday and our test will be on Friday.  The children may choose to write in cursive or print.

English - We are working on our "Personal Hero" 4-paragraph expository essays.  These will be displayed during open house.

Reading - Our American Hero brochures are done.  We will spend our reading time this week working on our Invention descriptions and Invention speeches.  On Wednesday and Thursday, the children will be giving brief speeches about their invention.  They will need to include the following:
Introduction/Hook
Name of the invention
What problem it solves
How it works
Brief description of how it was made and supplies used.
The students may have some fun with their speech by making it into a commercial with catchy slogans or sayings.
