On Tuesday, Mr. Lee will visit our classroom for most of the day to do many activities with us on electricity. Please have your child wash their hair the day or night before. They should also refrain from using hairspray, gel, mousse, etc. Clean, dry hair will work best with one of the experiments.

Spelling Bee:
On Wednesday, the winners and runners-up from each fourth grade class competed against each other in a fourth grade spell-off. One of our classroom representatives, Declan, was one of the winners of the grade level spell-off. He will be representing fourth grade in the district spelling bee on Thursday, February 4, at 1:00. Congratulation, Declan! We wish you the best of luck!

Homeroom Happenings:
Science - We will continue to learn about electricity this week. On Monday, the children will take an open-book quiz on chapter 15, lesson 1. The children have been exploring circuits. Each child will be making a circuit puzzle that will be tested with a simple circuit. We will also move onto lesson 2, which will explore how electricity and magnetism are related.

Social Studies - On Thursday, the children will fill out a Midwest map. The Midwest test will be on Tuesday, February 9. The children will need to know the location and spelling of each state in the Midwest. Capitals will be worth 1/4 point bonus each.

Spelling - We will work with lesson 19 this week. Lesson 19 practices adding -ed and -ing to short vowel words that end in one consonant. Children should practice their words in cursive.

English - We will take this week off from normal English lessons. Instead, we will be working on extended response writing. Our writing follows this recipe:
*Turn the question around
*Text proof
*Interpretation (in my own words)

*Interpretation (in my own words)
*What I learned or general statement about the reading passage

Reading - The children will have their first book club meeting on Tuesday. They should bring their book and discussion sheet to the meeting.
